Eileen Lucier, 76

GRAFTON- Eileen (Bouvier) Lucier, 76, of 11 Murray Ave., South Grafton, a retired educator, who was active in her church, died Friday, Sept. 6, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

     She leaves her husband of 52 years, Leo P. Lucier; a son, Marc B. Lucier of Worcester; a brother, Arthur O. Bouvier Jr. of Cape Cod and Florida; a sister, Juliette Schwartz of Worcester; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Arthur O. Bouvier Sr. and Lillian (LeClaire) Bouvier, and lived 62 years in Grafton. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1944, received a bachelor's degree in education from Worcester State Teachers College in 1948 and received a master's degree in English literature from Clark University, Worcester. She also did doctorate studies at Clark University.

     Mrs. Lucier was an English teacher in Grafton from 1948 to 1960. She then taught at Nipmuc Regional High School, Mendon, where she was head of the English Department, retiring in 1991. She was an authority on Shakespearean literature. She was an active member of St. James Church, South Grafton. She and her husband founded the church's Bereavement Committee. She also was a founding member of The Worcester Diocesan Evangelism Committee and a member of Massachusetts Teachers Association, Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts, and Worcester State College and Clark University Alumni associations.

     The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, from Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. Burial will be private in Fairview Cemetery, South Grafton. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. James Church Memorial Fund, 89 Main St., South Grafton, MA 01560. 30
